Peacemaker Awards
“It isn't enough to talk about peace. One must believe in it. And it isn't enough to believe in it. One must work at it.”
Eleanor Roosevelt
Seeking nominees who have demonstrated a long-term commitment to peace & justice issues or have shown leadership in the area of peace, justice & sustainability activities.
Nominations for an individual or group from Western Montana communities and Tribal reservations.
The award is an opportunity to honor the “unsung heroes” of our community who are working to make the world better.
It is important that the individual or group nominated be viewed as a peacemaker, making a professional and/or personal commitment to “walk the walk” of nonviolence, social justice and sustainability, serving as a role model for others and the community.
Nominations that are not selected will continue to be available for future selection.
Re-nominating someone who is not selected is encouraged.
Self-nominations will not be accepted.
Missoula Peace Quilters Peacemaker of the Year Award
The annual Peacemaker award is bestowed on a local citizen who demonstrates a clear and enduring commitment to the core values of the Jeannette Rankin Peace Center (JRPC): non-violence, social justice and environmental sustainability. The award is chosen annually by a joint committee of JRPC Board members and members of the Missoula Peace Quilters. The decision of who will receive the award is made on a consensus basis, with all members of the committee agreeing on the final choice. The awardee is chosen each fall, with the announcement and celebration event held the following spring or summer.
