Sewing Peace

“Any form of art is a form of power; it has impact, it can affect change — it can not only move us, it makes us move.” ~Ossie Davis

Dear friends,
For the last several weeks, three to five women have set up shop in the community SewingPeaceroom at JRPC to sew quilts. These are not just ordinary quilts — they are “comfort quilts”, soon to be on their way to children at our Southern border who have endured the heartbreaking separation from their parents that has captivated our news headlines. I watch them choose the fabrics carefully and pattern them together in pleasing ways. And then even sew a small stuffed bird that will go into a pocket to become a special friend for a child who feels alone. They are not asking for recognition but their story is so touching because they read the headlines and answered the call with the skills they have. They are making peace and each week as I see them, I am so touched and impressed by their dedication to a world that is more compassionate. There is still time to join them.
