Light the New Year

Dear friends,

As the earth moves from darkness into light, it is a reminder to echo that in our lives.  We can consciously leave the darkness behind and create the future, for ourselves, for our communities, for the earth.  But it requires us to act with commitment.  What risks will we need to take?  What will we need to let go of, and what will we need to embrace?  What are the behaviors, the beliefs, the patterns that no longer serve? We can let them go and make the commitment to change.  Envision the future you want to create, and then step up to face the challenges of healing our communities, our economies, our climate and our environment.
Let us greet 2012 with visible signs of peace reflecting our hopes, wishes, and prayers for peace.  You could stand with Women in Black tomorrow from 12:15 to 12:45. And on New Year’s Eve, a large luminary peace sign in Caras Park will again proclaim Missoula’s wish for peace.  While hundreds of people express their delight and appreciation every year, too few help keep it lit.   Please bring your family and friends and spend a few moments enjoying and helping to create this glowing peace sign in the Caras Park performance circle.  Bring your luminaries – votive candles in a lunch-size paper bag with a bit of sand or kitty litter in the bottom — any time after 4:45, and place them in the circle.  If you have an hour or two to give to make sure this peace sign can again light the New Year in Missoula, please call Zac at 549-9722 or email
Thank you for supporting the peace center – for being our light.  97% of our funding comes from you, and we are grateful for every donation – of time and money.  Our best wishes for all the people of the earth that 2012 will be a year when peace and justice prevail.                                                                                                                                                                                                        ~Betsy and all of JRPC
